Project STEM 2018 Application Deadline: April 1

Dear high school students, parents and teachers,

Thank you for your interest in the Indianapolis Project STEM Summer Research Internship Program at IUPUI. The program is blessed every year to serve outstanding students in the greater Indianapolis area. When possible, we also try to accommodate students from more distant Indiana rural communities.

In March, we will hold a meeting for all interested students who complete the application. Information will be sent to students and parents at the email they provide on the application.

The internship program is a full immersion full time 8 week research experience from May 29 to July 20. (A small number of students who start in June will finish on July 27). Actual hours will depend on the lab director mentoring the student but start times are generally between 8 and 9 in the morning and ending times between 4 and 6. There are required program meetings every Tuesday from 4 to 6pm, and 4 Thursdays, also 4 to 6pm. Thus, it is recommended that students have no other obligations until 6pm.

There are numerous fields of research available and when students are accepted, they receive directions on how to match with a lab in a field of interest.

Students usually participate as unpaid volunteer as they will receive training and experience that would normally cost thousands of dollars. In the application process, parents will be able to let the organizing committee know if the student has extenuating circumstances in which we would consider providing a transportation stipend if funds become available. It is strongly recommended that all students and parents first check to see if family income meets the requirements for the student to apply to

All applicants must have completed 2 semesters of chemistry before the program begins and be:

Mature Sophomores – going into Junior Year
Juniors – going into Senior year
Seniors - going into college as some laboratories require students to be 18.

Although very exceptional, we have accepted students in the summer after grade 9 who have completed 2 semesters of high school chemistry.

Application deadline is April 1.

Interest in the 2018 program has been very high since the 2017 program ended. We anticipate a very competitive admission rate of 1 of 7 applicants.

We invite students to apply. To request application materials, please click and complete the link:

All students who apply will be notified of their acceptance status on May 1.
